Beru, Fire Eyes Gather Souls

Hace unos meses le eché una escucha, por mediación de un amigo, a una cinta titulada Daughter of Eve. A él le hizo soñar con historias de sirenas bajo el mar, pero conmigo, en aquel punto, la magia no funcionó. Ha sido con esta maravilla donde la conexión se ha establecido.

Desde el principio, la voz de Beru me introduce en un mundo onírico, subacuático y espectral de sirenas e historias de amor envueltas en penumbra. Guitarras eléctrica y acústica, notas y ambientes sintéticos, coros celestiales, ocasionales ritmos electrónicos, cuerdas y demás instrumentos, ruidos y efectos varios, sonidos del mar, y por encima de todo el encanto invencible de su voz de sirena, forman un collage sonoro que juega con la confusión y la paz, la distorsión y la belleza. La etiqueta doom metal aparece en su bandcamp y para nada se me habría ocurrido adjudicársela, pero algo de eso hay, aunque muy asumido e integrado en algo totalmente diferente, más cercano al folk mágico, el pop onírico y el drone.

Esta música increíble es como una pintura surrealista y oscura que invita a perderse en la profundidad oculta en sus detalles, que de hecho te lleva de viaje a otro mundo en cuanto atrapa tu atención con sus ecos lejanos. Ahora mismo, lo más bonito del mundo es la voz de Jessica Collins cantando te quiero y envolviéndome en su abrazo para llevarme flotando a un sueño de imágenes misteriosas y melodías conmovedoras.

A few months ago I listened to a tape called Daughter of Eve, thanks to a friend. It made him dream of stories about mermaids under the sea, but at that point the magic didn't work to me. With this wonder, though, the connection is established.

From the beginning, Beru's voice introduces me into a dreamlike, underwater, spectral world of mermaids and love stories in half-light. Electric and acoustic guitar, synthetic notes and environments, heavenly choirs, occasional electronic beats, strings and other instruments, noises and effects, sounds of the sea and, above all, the invincible charm of her mermaid voice, all of them form a sound collage in which the game is about confusion and peace, distortion and beauty. Although I'd never thought of tagging it as doom metal, as seen in her bandcamp, there is indeed some of it here, but very integrated into something completely different, closer to magical folk, dream pop and drone.

This amazing music is like a dark surrealist painting, that invites you to loose yourself in the depth hidden in its details, actually it takes you travel to another world just when its distant echoes grab your attention. Right now, the most beautiful thing in the world is the voice of Jessica Collins singing I love you and embracing me to take me floating to a dream of mysterious visions and moving melodies.
